| Viscosity is the rheological test properties of liquid and paste samples. It can be divided in two scales e.g. centri stroke (cSt) and centri poise (cP).
For cSt viscosity measurement, it is generally for Newtronian behavoir products e.g. hydrocarbon, petroleum, chemicals, lube oil, diesel etc. It is test in according to ASTM D445. Also, flow cup measurement e.g. Zahn Cup, DIN cup, Ford Cup, etc.
For cP viscosity measurement, it is generally for non-Newtronian behavoir products e.g. food, paste, sauce, paint, ink, mixtures, petroleum products at low temperature, grease etc. Sometims this method is called Rotary Viscometer or Brookfield Viscometer, using varioius spindles with selectabel speeds.
If above two methods are not applicable due to its flow ability, it may be useful to use a Consistometer which is well known for food applications e.g. tomatoe sauces, chilli paste, cream, etc.
If sample is harder and cannot flow, Penetrometer and Texture Analyzer will be the best fit. |
